Focus is an exchange program runned by the norwegian IFES movement, Laget.
Preparatory course at Hald
From the middle of August until the end of September, the students are at Hald. There, a 6 week preparatory course takes place, which emphasises teaching the Christian faith, knowledge about cultures, communication and team building. Parallel preparatory courses with the same start run for all programmes, and some teaching is for all students together. Hald International Centre is a boarding school, where there are great opportunities for social activities for all students outside teaching hours. Hald has approximately 70 students altogether, and we can offer good living conditions and a thriving setting.
Placement
From October to April (approximately 6 months), the students on Focus live and work in different countries in Europe, Africa and South America. The placements for Focus are connected to the Christian Union’s sister movements in the international Christian Union movement (International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES), www.ifesworld.org). The school year 2006/2007 we are sending students to Norway, Brazil, Kenya, Nepal and Uganda. In every place, the students will be followed up by a local staff member.
Spring course after Easter
The students are back at Hald after Easter. Then an 10 week long spring course will be arranged with two important components: debriefing after the placement, and a Bible course with everyday relevant and exciting themes. In addition, social activities will of course have a central and important place on this course too.
Information Work
We want everybody who participates in Focus to transmit inspiration and knowledge back to your native country and to IFES. After the placement abroad, the individual student will therefore have some information tasks. This can happen for example through being a camp leader, have a school lesson, write to a local paper or church magazine, or through visiting a Christian Union or a youth club.
Who can go out for Focus?
The program is best suited for you over 18 years old. Language knowledge is emphasised. All places you have to know English.
It is an advantage if you have experience from Christian Unions.
Important personal characteristics:
At Focus we are not looking for experts in student work, but for people who:
- Are motivated to contribute in Christian student ministry and other types of Christian work
- Are open and willing to learn when meeting other people and cultures
- Are flexible and adaptable
